It has been said that laughter is the best medicine and it is good for the soul. One of the roles that laughter plays is bringing people from different walks of life together for a time of enjoyment. We have seen this through the art of standup comedy since decades ago and it still has the same effect on those who follow it. This art is undoubtedly on the rise in our country and more and more comedians are rising up to the occasion. Not forgetting to give credit where it is due to comedians such as Trevor Noah who is currently raising the South African flag in the international scenes. It is therefore a very refreshing sight to see our local comedians in the Nelson Mandela Bay getting a platform through the support of Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), to showcase their talent and entertain the masses of the city.

Athenaeum Comedy Nights returns this April with a splendid line-up of comedians sure to help keep everyone warm this winter and ease them from spring into summer. The host TD Jokes cuts a striking, unique blend of clean comedy sets and backs this up with an equally striking and unique performance. MBDA in conjunction with TDJ Entertainment are also creating a platform for young up-coming comedians to develop their comedic skills with the aim of seeing these young acts moving from being amateur to professional comedians, by giving each young comedian an opportunity to share the stage with other professional comedians within the comedy circuit.

The Athenaeum Comedy Nights is somewhat unsurprisingly a comedy night in Port Elizabeth in the Nelson Mandela Bay and will be showcasing three of the finest stand-up comics from the Mandela Bay and from national comedy circuit. These shows will be held once every month on the last Thursday of every month with the first show on the 21 April at 7 pm. It’s the perfect start to anyone’s weekend.
