ART IN ME EXHIBITION


The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture will host Visual Arts Exhibition at the Athenaeum Art Gallery on the 25 November to 09 December 2016.The Nelson Mandela District Visual Arts Crafts has a mandate to develop and enhance the visual arts talent. The district is committed to hold an art exhibition annually in order to create and provide more opportunities for artists.
Visual artists play a vital role in social commentary. Their sensitivity to the world around them in both nature and human behaviour make artists highly alert to the evolution of events, the beauty of the creation around them and ills facing humankind.
The aim is to create an opportunity for artists to produce quality artworks that meets the required National Professional Standards. This exhibition is regarded as a build up for other exhibition.

Venue : Athenaeum Gallery
Duration of the Exhibition : 25 November - 09 December 2016
Submission of artworks : From the 18 November 09:00- 16:00 to 21 November 09:00 – 12:00
Selection of artworks : 21 November 13:00-16:00

OWN WRITER'S NETWORK

OWN is abbreviation for Our Writer’s Network. Its main objective is to pull from the expertise of writers of all kinds; academic and creative in the metro – particularly the young black writers I rub shoulders with. The purpose of focusing on young black writers is to shatter the myth of the one narrative. OWN is to spotlight the voice and views of young writers in a space that they can own – away from the overlooking eye of institutional trickery. Providing a space for writers to be as honest and if needed brutal as possible.

RESPECT - EXHIBITION

Sakhumzi and Msindisi Nyendwana together with invited artists and School children from different Mandela Bay. Opening Saturday 29 October at 3PM and the show runs until 19 November 2016.
They will be exhibiting today life based on our history, fallen soldiers and the way we see life in this day and age.

The awakening concert - leaders in sacred world music celebrates an evening of universal and ancient world music vocalised in Sanskrit, Aramaic, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindu, French, Latin and English.

The Mamela arts festival, hosted by the department of Arts and culture will feature the musical showcases by Tarynne Swarts " Pachamama,featuring Creshwell October and SAMA award wining saxist Phumlani Mtiti and Uphonde lwe Africa. The event is free but you have to rsvp to in order to have your seat reserved.
